How it works

Google sends the customers. You have to pick up.

This page explains, in plain English, how Google Local Services Ads work, why every missed call can cost you, and exactly what BookedOut does about it. No jargon. No experience needed.

Step 1

What are Google Local Services Ads?

They are the ads at the very top of Google when someone searches for a local trade, like “basement waterproofing near me”. Google checks the business first and gives it a badge (Google Guaranteed or Google Screened, depending on the trade). You pay when a real customer contacts you through the ad, not just for a click.

  1. 01

    A homeowner searches Google

Something goes wrong. A leak, a cracked driveway, a broken garage door. They search for help near them.

  2. 02

They see the ads at the very top

Local Services Ads sit above everything else, with a Google badge that tells people the business has been checked.

  3. 03

    They tap to call

No website to read, no form to fill in. One tap and their phone is ringing yours.

  4. 04

You answer. If you can’t, your AI backup does.

If someone picks up, you are in the running for the job. If nobody does, they tap the next ad.

Step 2

Google watches what happens to every call.

Calls from your ad come through Google. That means Google can see the lead come in, and whether you responded to it. It is not guessing. It is measuring how well you look after the customers it sends you.

Google says it plainly in its own help pages: “missed calls may negatively affect your responsiveness.”

What a missed call really costs

  • The job. A caller who gets no answer usually calls the next company on the list.
  • Your spot on Google. Responsiveness is one of the things Google looks at when it decides whose ad to show first.
  • Your cost per lead. Google says better ranked ads can end up paying less per lead. Lower ranked ads can mean the opposite.

Step 3

Who gets shown first?

Google runs a quick auction every time someone searches. It is not just about who pays the most. Google looks at things like:

  • 1How much you are willing to pay for a lead
  • 2Your Google star rating
  • 3How many reviews you have
  • 4How quickly and how often you respond to customers
  • 5How complete your profile is

Step 4

So here is what BookedOut does.

Three jobs. One goal: you get the call, you win the job, and Google sees a business worth showing.

1. We run your ads

We set up and manage your Google Local Services Ads so homeowners in your area see you at the top and call you.

2. We back you up on missed calls

You still answer your own phone. When you are on a job and cannot pick up, your AI receptionist steps in as your backup. It gets the caller’s name, address and what they need, and sends it straight to you.

3. We get you more reviews

After a job, your customer gets a simple message asking for a Google review. More reviews help your ad look better, and help the next homeowner trust you.

It all feeds itself.

  1. 01

    More leads from Google

  2. 02

    No missed calls

  3. 03

    More 5-star reviews

  4. 04

A better spot on Google, and more leads

Questions a beginner would ask

Does the AI replace me or my staff?

No. You and your team still answer your own phone, the way you do today. The AI receptionist is only a backup for the calls you cannot get to, like when you are on a job, on another call or after hours.

Who pays for the ads?

Your ad budget goes to Google, not to us. Our plan is $397 CAD per month, covers the setup and everything we run for you, and you can cancel anytime.

What is a lead?

A lead is a real person contacting you through your ad, usually by phone call, message or booking request. With Local Services Ads you pay for leads, not for every person who just looks at your ad.

Can I get leads that are not a good fit?

Sometimes. Google lets you dispute leads that do not match your business, and we keep an eye on that for you.

Do I need to be good with computers?

No. We set up the ads, the AI receptionist and the review requests for you. You do the work, and calls and details come to you.

What if I miss a call anyway?

That is exactly why the AI receptionist is there. You still answer your own phone. It is only a backup that steps in when you cannot, takes the details, and sends them to you so you can call back and win the job.
